Get Ready For The Beach

5 Summer Beach Bag Essentials

It’s almost summertime and that means beach days are upon us! Before you head out to the beach, the pool, or your summer vacation, don’t forget to pack the perfect beach bag. Here are 5 summer beach bag essentials to take with you…

1. Sun Protection: We’re not just talking about sunscreen here. To fully protect yourself from the sun’s damaging rays, pack a big broad-brimmed hat, fabulous oversized sunglasses, and not one, but three, forms of sunscreen for your face, lips, and body. You can also tuck away a mini sun umbrella that sticks in the sand to further shade yourself. Get your Luv Ya SPF 30+ for your beach-going needs.

2. Water! Water! Water! Hydration is the key to a healthy skin. But instead of packing your regular water bottles, spring for a more high-tech option with the frozen core center to keep your H20 chilly this summer.

3. Entertainment: Download great music to your iPod like Summer by Calvin Harris or try Café Del Mar, your favorite magazines, or your phone & take pics. Don’t forget to get a waterproof case, being a great way to text or chat poolside without ruining your phone. They come in all colors, styles, and for every type of phone out there.

4. Healthy Treats: Just so you’re not tempted by the ice-cream truck that passes by or the beach concessions stand with hot dogs and fries, try packing some cool and healthy treats of your own, such as frozen grapes or for a guiltier pleasure – frozen dark-chocolate covered acai berries.

5. Calorie Burners: Don’t forget to pack some fitness items to help burn those calories and keep in bikini-shape, such as a Frisbee, an old-school inflatable beach ball to toss back and forth, or Smashball, which is like ping pong without the table. It’s a great way to have some fun in the sun and burn a few extra calories as well!

While it’s important to take some time this season to soak up the rays, enjoy the great outdoors, and bask in the summer breezes, it’s also important to keep your skin healthy, glowing, and hydrated. Make sure you have your skin regimen. Make sure you order your Travel Kits before you go! Happy travels!

got-spots

Got Spots?

Got spots?

As in got freckles, sunspots, age spots, or liver spots? These are signs of skin damage also known as hyperpigmentation.

Hyperpigmentation is the darkening of the skin caused by an overproduction of pigment called melanin.  Melanin is the pigment that gives color to skin, eyes, & hair and acts as the skin’s protective screen from the sun; you’re um-berella. Melanin is produced by skin cells called melanocytes.  As the body ages, melanocyte distribution becomes less controlled by the body.  UV lights stimulate melanocyte activity & where cells are compacted thus; Hyperpigmentation is affected and seen as freckles, sun spots, age spots, & liver spots. The common causes of hyperpigmentation are sun exposure & hormonal changes and could show up anywhere such as the forehead, cheeks, nose, chin, and upper lip area. The worst times are the summer months when the sun is at an all time high.

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, 90 percent of women suffer from hyperpigmentation. For those who suffer from hyperpigmentation and carry the psychological and emotional stress of it, are you looking to treat these spots? The good news is that it is treatable! Multiple modalities may be needed, time, patience, the right home care regimen, and product use are crucial to achieve clear and bright results! From services such as laser, light therapy, and chemical peels such as Glycolic.

Home care is absolutely necessary to assist in the process of treating hyperpigmentation. The most common cream to treat hyperpigmentation is known as Hydroquinone, a bleaching cream that’s either prescribed or over the counter, however, there are so many other options that are organic, multifunctional, and safer! Bearberry, is a small shrub that has edible fruit, berries, which is the fruit Bears go beary berry bonkers over!  Bearberry is a powerful tonic for the body due to its antiseptic properties, making it excellent for the skin and has a whitening effect mild enough to lighten problem areas without over-bleaching.  In addition, it’s an excellent antioxidant that works to fight free radicals and works as a natural sunscreen source while increasing cell turnover. Or Kojic acid, an ingredient found in mushrooms, a by-product of the fermentation process used for wines like sake.  Kojic acid lessens the production of melanin.  Also, it’s an antioxidant which counteracts the free radicals that cause oxidative damage to the skin cells and contribute to aging of the skin; it’s an antibacterial which is recommended for addressing acne blemishes & other infections. Try our Brilliance Booster Serum which contains both Bearberry and Kojic acid!

Vitamin C is another potent anti-oxidant that encourages the production of skin collagen, inhibiting melanin, and is known to boost your levels of vitamin E, a great anti-oxidant which protect cells from oxidation Try our Vitamin C+ Collagen Serum and C Crème.

Your skin care regimen must include an SPF which is needed on the daily! Try our SPF 30+ Moisturizer. This will shield the skin from UV light to control melanin production on the cellular level, while decreasing the chance of skin cancer and slowing down the premature aging.

You can assist your services and home care regimen by protecting your results in many ways for example by using big brim hats and what’s better is these days you can have a built in sunscreen called UPF, Ultra Violet Protection Factor. For example, UPF 50+ means the fabric blocks 97.5% of UV rays. How great is that! Use an under eye cream such as Murumuru Eye Cream and big sunglasses with UVA & UVB protection that wraps and covers most of your face to protect from sun damage. Throw both on & you fit movie star status! Get tinted car windows or a more cost-efficient approach is a sun shade or vinyl to avoid the harmful rays while you drive.

Lastly, have you heard the expression you are what you eat? Due to the darkening effects they have on the skin try to stay away from foods such as limes, celery, and caffeine in large quantities. Stick to grapefruit, kiwis, and berries which supply antioxidants and helps prevent a buildup of melanin under the skin. These are ways to treat, protect, & prevent hyperpigmentation!
